CC-Link Partner Association (CLPA) partner Festo has adopted CC-Link high-speed, high-performance open industrial network technology in its work to develop automation solutions inspired by nature. A specific example is a robot dragonfly that soars and hovers like the real thing.

CC-Link enables devices from numerous manufacturers to communicate, resulting in a fast, deterministic control system.

In addition to the dragonfly, Festo has many other equally impressive models, including birds, fish and a kangaroo that uses principles from nature to provide inspiration for technical applications and industrial practice. More practical demonstrations include a wave surface, which changes shape to sort rolling items, and a hand or intelligent manipulator that can teach itself to manipulate an object it is holding, to a specified orientation.

The need for fast, reliable data handling in such applications is paramount, and CC-Link often proves to be the protocol of choice. There are more than 1,300 control products compatible with CC-Link, including PLCs, robots, servos, drives, valves, manifolds, digital and analogue I/O modules, temperature controllers and mass flow controllers.

Festo includes a CC-Link interface with its CPX Automation Platform, which is a totally modular valve terminal system for controlling pneumatically and electrically driven automation systems. Other modules available for the CPX include a motion controller, servo-pneumatics, a pressure sensor, standard I/O and safety cut-outs.

Festo sees the CPX as an enabling technology that helps make realising ambitious automation projects as straightforward and ‘designer friendly’ as possible.

CC-Link Partner Association (CLPA)

The CLPA is the organisation of manufacturers of CC-Link compatible products and users of CC-Link technology. The CLPA oversees and manages the CC-Link specifications, provides technical support and conformance testing and promotes the worldwide adoption of the CC-Link open automation network technologies. The CLPA was formed in November 2000. Global adoption of CC-Link is demonstrated by the following:

  • Over 12 million CC-Link devices have been installed
  • There are more than 2,100 members of the CC-Link Partner Association
  • There are more than 1,300 certified CC-Link products available from over 280 manufacturers

CC-Link is acknowledged by third party research to be the leading choice for open automation networks in Asia. By adding CC-Link to their portfolio, companies will be able to access up to 20% of the Asian market not accessible to Western technologies. To assist companies with this, the CLPA offers the “Gateway to Asia” (G2A) programme, G2A provides development and marketing assistance to companies who join the CLPA and develop CC-Link products.
