Heller Machine Tools has revealed that its advanced F-series five-axis machining centre range has received a high level of interest from the global aerospace industry since its launch in spring 2010.

Rob Smith, technical sales manager at Dormer Tools, considered that the FT 4000 machine from the new F-series would meet Dormer’s requirements for a high-power, high-torque, five-axis machining centre.

Having proved the machine’s worth, Heller will soon be installing an FT 4000 at Dormer Tools’ facility in Sheffield, providing both companies with an ideal demonstration facility.

Smith said: ‘The launch of Heller’s F-series proved to be perfect timing for Dormer Tools, as at that time we were undertaking an in-depth search for a high-torque, very flexible five-axis machining centre.

‘Our challenging list of technical criteria meant that several well-known machine tool manufacturers were unable to meet our requirements.

‘After contacting Heller, and following a comprehensive demonstration, we decided that the F-series, FT 4000, best met all of our needs,’ he added.

Heller’s F-series will be used for a multitude of tasks.

The machining centre’s spindle power and high-torque characteristics make it suitable for Dormer’s milling, tapping and drilling demonstrations.

The machine will also be used in Dormer’s ‘customer surgeries’ – component-specific demonstrations that help prove the efficiency of the company’s tools and help provide optimum ‘feeds and speeds’ advice.

The F-series is suitable for use across a range of industries, including the automotive and aerospace sectors, making it ideal for use in Dormer’s regular industry-specific seminars.

Heller introduced the F-series five-axis machining centres in April 2010.

The launch added four high-performance five-axis machining centres, equipped with SK40 and HSK63 spindle tapers, together with either single tables or as twin-pallet machines with auto pallet changers.

The company said the F-series is a suitable five-axis solution for the machining of a multitude of parts manufactured from a wide selection of materials.

Heller expects the F-series to prove popular across a range of manufacturing industries, including the automotive industry and its supply chain, machine manufacturers, electronics companies, power generation, subcontractors and the aerospace industry.
