Floyd Automatic Tooling has introduced the Crazydrill Flex series of solid carbide drills from Mikron Tool. The drills are said to be particularly suitable for applications with highly productive sliding-head lathes, multi-spindle machines and transfer machines.

The solid carbide drills are flexible and accurate and suit deep hole drilling up to 50XD. The range’s special tool geometry makes it possible to drill even in the instance of drill alignment errors.

Crazydrill Flex features a flexible centre part that prevents breakages and provides flexibility only previously available with HSS drills. The range’s special tip geometry reduces feed force by 50 per cent to permit maximum drilling speeds and minimal heat.

Product specifications

  • Three coolant channels in the drill shank optimise tool life
  • Drill flanks incorporate an edge protection system that prevents the cutting edges from breaking when drilling holes at high speeds and feeds
  • Drill point complemented by chip flute geometry that creates short chips that can be evacuated easily
  • Flexible centre piece prevents breakages caused by alignment errors
  • Precision ground 3mm shank eliminates run-out
  • Available in 20XD (diameters from 0.1mm to 1.2mm with cutting lengths from 2mm to 24mm), 30XD (diameters from 0.1mm to 1.2mm, cutting depths from 3mm to 36mm with overall lengths from 40mm to 70mm depending on drill diameter) and 50XD (diameters vary from 0.3mm to 1.2mm in 0.1mm increments with drilling depths from 15mm to 60mm with overall lengths from 53mm to 95mm)
  • Flexpilot drills available for drilling at 3XD with diameters from 0.1mm to 1.2mm in 0.01mm increments
  • Crazydrill Flex is available with two coating types: Crazydrill Flex Steel suits the drilling of tough and long chipping materials such as copper and titanium alloys; Crazydrill Flex Titanium can drill alloy and non-alloy steels, cast iron, aluminium alloys and brass

Floyd Automatic Tooling

Floyd Automatic Tooling was established in 1989 to provide the turned-part industry with specialist tooling to accommodate the demands of a wide variety of subcontract and OEM component manufacturers.
