Floyd Automatic Tooling demonstrated its range of tooling for sliding-head turning centres – designed to improve productivity and setup times – at Mach 2010.

The company also showcased the F40 collet and sleeve kits, which can increase bar capacity up to 36mm in diameter on a 32mm-diameter-capacity sliding-head machine.

Designed by Swisscollet in Geneva, these latest developments are intended to meet market needs for increased-diameter ranges on sliding-head lathes.

Alongside the collet and sleeve kits was Habegger’s three-position guide bush system, which reduces material waste and costs while improving machining tolerances.

Further extending the capabilities of the turning centre, Floyd also highlighted the new Swisscollet expanding arbour system, which is claimed to improve the workholding capabilities of turning centres.

Adapting to any machine using a dead-length collet system, the modular expanding arbour system can be used on fixed- and sliding-head lathes as well as in specialist machining applications.

‘New products that were very well received at the show included the Hommel and Keller roll marking tools for component marking, the Zeus Cut-Line programme of knurling tools and the new generation of Cut-Line parting-off tools,’ said Richard Floyd, managing director.

The Applitec Cut-Line programme has been enhanced with the introduction of the ‘U’ geometry inserts and increased parting-off capacity up to 42mm diameter, which incorporates fixed-head turning centres.

The new-generation parting-off tool has a double ‘V’ clamping system that ensures maximum rigidity for enhanced tool life and improved surface finishes, according to Floyd.

Also on show at Mach was the new Mikron Miqumill series of carbide cutting tools for chamfering and deburring operations.

Available with a cutting diameter as small as 0.3mm and shank diameter of 1mm, this chamfer milling cutter is suitable for machining very small workpieces.

This enables the Miqumill to reach practically all angles and corners to deliver high-feed machining with excellent surface quality.
