Floyd Automatic Tooling has announced a range of laser-generated chip-breaker turning inserts.

Simultaneously launched by Applitec and Schwanog, two of Floyd Automatic’s principal suppliers, the range is intended for UK users of sliding head turning centres.

The ZF Series of groove and turn inserts is an addition to the Applitec Top-Line programme, designed to deliver improved swarf control compared with traditional ground inserts – a finish only normally found on sintered inserts.

The ZF Series is available in a wide range of geometries, with additional geometries available upon request.

The series guarantees very efficient chip control when grooving and turning difficult-to-cut materials.

The Schwanog system uses similar technology to the Applitec system to offer enhanced swarf management and remove shavings that cause interruptions to production on form tools.

The Schwanog series is well-suited to machining lead-free materials.

Form tools with an individual chip breaker deliver considerable reductions in machine downtime.

Complex form tools are either wire-eroded or form-ground to promote cycle time improvements on single- point turning.
