Megger is set to host a series of seminars designed to clear up confusion caused by the recent changes to requirements for portable appliance testing (PAT).

The initial 35 seminars, which are free to attend and will be held throughout the UK, will look in detail at the changes introduced by the fourth edition of the IET Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment.

The PAT Testing Code of Practice 4th Edition — National Roadshow is aimed at those who provide PAT testing services as well as those who use or have a need for these services.

Each seminar will last about an hour and there will be opportunities for attendees to ask questions and discuss their own specific requirements.

Seminar topics

For providers of PAT testing services:

  • The seminar aims to dispel the fear that the changes will necessarily lead to reduced income and explain how the potential reduction in demand for routine re-testing can be offset by offering a wider range of services and support.
  • The procedure of determining re-test interval on the basis of a risk assessment, which is given much greater emphasis in the new code of practice, will also be dealt with in detail.

For those who use, or believe they should be using, PAT testing services:

  • The seminar will discuss why and when PAT testing is needed and will, in particular, consider who is the ‘duty holder’ mentioned in the code of practice.
  • It will explain the responsibilities of the duty holder and the potential consequences of neglecting these responsibilities.
