Garrandale has designed, manufactured and installed a bespoke boom welding machine at Cartwright Group to speed up the production process and increase manufacturing turnaround at its production facility in Altrincham.

One of the key requirements for the Cartwright Group was the ability to manufacture high volumes of components and as its existing machine was only capable of welding up to 600mm per minute this was restrictive for the production process.

Garrandale was able to design, manufacture and install a solution capable of welding 900–1,000mm per minute that reduced cycle time for its busy manufacturing facility.

The welding equipment for the new machine was supplied by Air Liquide Welding. The correct choice of welding equipment for the machine was important in speeding up the production process.

Key application benefits

  • In addition to time and cost savings, the Garrandale solution improved the flexibility of the manufacturing facility through its ability to gain access to a much smaller welding envelope and thus allowing the company to produce a wider range of components on one machine.
  • The welding equipment selected has a quicker weld time and produces significantly less heat, which means that the components will cool down faster and can be removed from the jig sooner, further enhancing productivity.
  • The need to speed up production was the main driver for the development of the bespoke solution and, following its installation, Cartwright Group has achieved not only this but a number of additional efficiencies in its manufacturing facility.
