The Condumax II hydrocarbon and water dewpoint analyser from Michell Instruments has enabled a natural gas storage operator to improve the hydrocarbon and water dewpoint measurements at its storage site in Europe. This has increased the company’s confidence in the quality of the natural gas.

The storage operator’s existing water and hydrocarbon dewpoint analysers were giving erratic and unresponsive readings. Rapid response is said to be critically important to natural gas storage operators providing emergency gas supply to satisfy peak demand on the transmission network — particularly during winter.

The company rented a Condumax II hydrocarbon and water dewpoint analyser at short notice to give readings of the natural gas in parallel with its existing analysers. This allowed it to check the accuracy and responsiveness of its equipment against a different analyser at minimum capital expense.

At the end of the test, the company was satisfied that its concerns about the reliability of the readings of the current analysers were justified.
