HBM has launched the EspressoDAQ series of USB-based measuring amplifiers, suitable for applications in the service sector among others.

The new amplifiers are designed to reliably acquire virtually all measured quantities.

Despite their small size and low cost, the modules incorporate carrier frequency technology and an analogue-to-digital converter with 24-bit resolution.

Modules can be supplied that either draw power from the USB interface, or a separate power pack can be utilised.

The amplifiers are designed for plug-and-measure tasks, while fully synchronised measurement systems can be enabled by operating several measuring amplifiers from a single USB hub.

This means that users can obtain measurement results very quickly.

The EspressoDAQ measuring amplifiers support the Transducer Electronic Data Sheet (TEDS), enabling the simple and rapid configuration of a range of transducer types; transducers are connected via an RJ45 connector.

The USB amplifiers are supplied with simple-to-operate software that takes a few steps for configuration, data acquisition and visualisation, enabling rapid measurement results.

All measured data can be exported using the most current formats.

‘The EspressoDAQ platform takes full advantage of USB technology to give measurement technology that is simple to operate and has a high performance capability,’ said Marc Zurn, HBM’s product manager.

Portable applications can be implemented through direct operation with a measuring amplifier.

‘The system is suitable for a wide range of applications, such as test engineers operating in the field or newcomers to measurement technology that want to achieve measurement results rapidly and easily,’ added Zurn.

The modules enable the measurement of individually configurable current or voltage inputs along with measurement using strain gauges – both in half- or full-bridge circuits – and the connection of all types of thermocouples.

The modules are available with either four or eight inputs that are all electrically isolated individually and from each other.

Each channel has its own analogue-to-digital converter for absolute synchronous measurements.

Typical applications for the EspressoDAQ modules include, for example, those in the service sector, where measurements can be easily and rapidly implemented with a laptop and a small module.

The EspressoDAQ modules are particularly suitable for applications where larger measurement systems would be too complicated and expensive.
