Heidenhain will display examples of its range of angular, linear and rotary encoders at Mach 2010.

The company will demonstrate its LS and LC sealed linear encoders, which are protected from dust, chips and fluids and are therefore suitable for use on machine tools.

An aluminium housing and elastic sealing lips protect the scale, guideway and scanning carriage – the latter travels in a low-friction guide within the scale unit and is connected to the external mounting block by a coupling that compensates for misalignment between the scale and the machine guideways.

Sealed linear encoders are available with full-size scale housings for high resistance to vibration up to measuring lengths of 30m and as slimline versions for limited installation space for measuring lengths up to 2,040mm.

The Ron and Rod sealed angle encoders being displayed are used in applications such as NC rotary tables, machine-tool swivel heads, dividing apparatus, high-precision angle measuring tables, precision devices in angular metrology, antennas and telescopes, for example.

Also on show, Heidenhain’s Lida exposed linear encoders operate with no mechanical contact between the scanning head and the scale or scale tape; typical areas of application include measuring machines, comparators and other precision devices in linear metrology, as well as production and measuring equipment, such as in the semiconductor industry.

As well as Era ring encoders, the Heidenhain stand will also feature encoders with functional safety – where a safety-related position measuring system can be used as a single-encoder system in conjunction with a ‘safe’ control.

There will also be a range of ND display units for simple DRO, metrology and gauging applications, as well as ST gauges and the new Acanto absolute digital length gauge.
