Hepcomotion has introduced the PRT2 1-Trak continuous motion system, which is said to allow track systems to be manufactured in almost any conceivable 2D shape from one piece of steel. Tracks can be made to include an integral base plate, which provides a strong, flat and accurate foundation for the system.

PRT2 1-Trak systems are seamless and free running, eliminating the possibility of misalignment during installation or in service and offering smoother, quieter motion.

The three-bearing geometry combined with the track shape ensures carriages exhibit zero play on the circuit. Hepcomotion said this is an important benefit compared with tracks where there is carriage lift-off between straight and curved track sections.

Carriages can carry loads from 67N to 51,000N and tracks can be made up to 5.5 x 1m or 1.9m2.

Key product information

  • Integral base plate can be customised with holes, slots and other features and can be supplied mounted to a Hepcomotion MCS frame system
  • 1-Trak circuits accommodate tighter bends than competing systems, saving space and cost and allowing the optimisation of production layout
  • Three-bearing carriages provide simple, low-cost alternative to bogie carriages
  • Wide track section available for applications with higher moment loads
  • Track systems can be specified with a vee profile guide section of any size to suit bearings from Hepcomotion’s PRT2 or heavy duty HDS2 ranges from 13mm to 150mm in diameter
  • Corrosion-resistant versions are included as standard
  • Rack-and-pinion-driven carriage is another standard 1-Trak option
  • Gear teeth on track are precision machined and surface hardened; gears are available from MOD 1.5 to MOD 10 and beyond
  • 1-Trak is also available with a rectangular flat track profile and track roller carriages, recommended for use when two track systems are mounted in parallel

Designing a unique engineering principle and making it a commercial success is quite an accomplishment.  Developing that concept and embracing complementary technologies to the point where the business becomes a world leader in its field takes that achievement into a different league.  HepcoMotion has achieved both and in 2009 celebrates 40th year of trading.

Today HepcoMotion is one of the world’s foremost innovators and manufacturers of linear motion technology.  And this can be attributed to the important tenet – continued investment in its people processes and products.  This has allowed the company to grow even at times of economical difficulty.

Although its range of individual, linear motion products remains an important part of its business the growth area for HepcoMotion in recent years is in specials and assemblies.  Almost one fifth of its shop floor space is devoted to assembly and the company has invested heavily in flexible manufacturing to ensure that even last minute changes can be accommodated to customer specification.

Constantly re-assessing its strengths against changing market demands continues to provide HepcoMotion with the momentum for business growth.  The culture of ongoing investment has certainly worked well throughout its first 40 years and will continue to underpin its business in the decades to come.
