The Himax safety system from Hima Paul Hildebrandt enables the grouping of all turbomachine functions into an advanced TMC (turbo machinery control) system.

This turbomachinery control system is said to require less space and fewer parts.

Its multitasking capability ensures the absence of reaction by separating safety functions from standard functions.

With current turbomachine systems, operators may face a turbine control cabinet that includes numerous automation devices from various manufacturers.

These components require a great deal of space and can result in confusing structures.

The integrated TMC solution from Hima combines all of the functions required for controlling, regulating, monitoring and safeguarding turbines in a single system.

All function modules are grouped together on the Himax system’s backplane and can communicate with one another via a backplane bus.

All signals from the field are sent directly to the system and are processed with equal priority.

As with all Hima systems, the TMC system benefits from open, manufacturer-independent standards that enable easy integration into any automation environment.

The Hima solution features all essential TMC functions, including: counter modules for regulating the rotation speed; analogue output modules for all control functions; multitasking fixed cycle times for specific applications; and the ability to modify the hardware and software during operation.

Another feature is the non-reactive separation of safety and standard functions.

This allows both time-critical applications (for example, turbine machinery control systems) with non-time-critical plant areas (for example, burner management systems) on a single, centralised Himax system.

In contrast to conventional TMC systems, the diagnostic and protective functions run in parallel on Himax.

Thanks to the system’s high diagnostic capability, a maintenance technician can quickly assess potential problems.

With its modular structure and scalability with respect to coverage, redundancy and SIL classification, the TMC system can be tailored to individual requirements.

This is said to result in a high degree of future compatibility and investment security, which can lead to reduced Capex/Opex.

Through co-operation with Elliott Turbomachinery, Hima can help satisfy customer mechanical reconstruction requirements during the retrofit of turbo machines.

Hima is responsible for remodelling the controllers and electrical systems, while Elliot oversees mechanical systems reconstruction.
