Working with Huntsman Advanced Materials, Entec has developed load break switches that are insulated using Araldite epoxy resin casting systems instead of the traditional SF6 gaseous insulation.

Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) is widely used in the electricity power industry as a gaseous insulator for high-voltage circuit breakers, switchgear and other electrical equipment.

However, it is now known as one of the most potent greenhouse gases with major implications for global warming.

As a result, many major players in the power industry have been looking at possible replacements to traditional SF6-insulated products.

The Entec Electric and Electronic Co is a technology enterprise for the development of medium-voltage switchgear and distribution automation in Korea.

Reducing the environmental impact of such technology has been a priority for Entec.

The company has been looking at a number of initiatives to achieve this including the development of solid insulated products such as solid insulated reclosers, indoor and outdoor solid insulated load break switches, as well as switchgears that are SF6 free.

Entec load break switches are now insulated using Araldite epoxy resin casting systems.

Using this Araldite system eliminates the risk of leakage that may cause damage to the ozone layer and potential explosions from the hazardous gas used in the traditional products.

Entec believes that using the Araldite XB 5957/Aradur XB 5958 casting system for the insulation of solid insulated products will lead to a new market trend in the global power distribution industry.

Araldite XB 5957/Aradur XB 5958 is a tough, hydrophobic resin casting system suitable for indoor and outdoor applications in even the most severe climatic conditions.

It can be used as an outdoor electrical insulation material for medium and high-voltage components, insulators, bushings, instrument transformers, sensors and so on.

Araldite XB 5957/Aradur XB 5958 exhibits good mechanical properties, excellent dielectric properties with high tracking resistance and good thermal shock resistance.

Together with its high resistance to erosion under UV radiation, this Araldite casting system is proven to extend the effective lifetime of the component insulation.

The Araldite system can be processed using Automatic Pressure Gelation (APG) or conventional gravity casting methods under vacuum.
