Impulse has announced the launch of uIBX-200 from IEI Technology.

These fanless embedded systems adopt the Intel Atom Z510P or VIA Eden ULV 1GHz/500MHz processors and come complete with DDR2 memory support of up to 1GB.

The Atom-based uIBX-200-R10/Z510P model utilises the latest Intel US15WP chipset, which has the lowest power consumption among the Intel low-power chipsets available.

Comparing the US15WP with another Intel Atom chipset, the Intel 945GSE, the power consumption of Intel US15WP running 3D Mark under Windows XP is 40 per cent lower.

With its built-in multimedia decoder engine, it can play HD H.264 movies smoothly while the CPU is handling additional tasks.

The uIBX-200-R10/Z510P’s chipset has a built-in H.264, MPEG1/2/4, VC1/ WMV9 decoder, which is capable of displaying high-resolution multimedia advertisements.

Content can be updated through the Internet remotely, or directly from a USB device.

This content is then stored on its SD card or SATA DOM, alongside the operating system – which is installed on a Compact Flash card.

This flash-based system prevents the O/S from being corrupted when frequently reading or writing content from or to the same disk.

The uIBX-200 series hosts a range of I/O, including four USB2.0 ports, two RS-232 ports and Gigabit Wired and 802.11b/g Wireless LAN interfaces.

It also has a lightweight aluminum chassis with a black plastic front I/O panel.

The dual Compact Flash sockets are protected by a lockable hinged door for added security.

The compact size and fanless design of uIBX-200 makes it flexible for applications where limited space is an issue.

Alternatively, with the optional uIBXVK-200B VESA75 double-sided mounting kit, the uIBX-200 can be mounted on the rear of a VESA-ready monitor and then attached to a VESA stand, arm or bracket – offering an all-in-one design solution.

The complete uIBX-200 series is rated for vibration to MIL-STD-810F 514.5C-2 specification, making it suitable for rugged industrial applications, while its fanless, low-noise design is also suitable for environments requiring quiet operation – such as museums and libraries.
