IMSM will exhibit its industry standards, AS9100 (Aerospace), ISO/TS16949:2002 (Automotive), ISO 13485 (Medical Devices) and ISO/IEC 17025:2005 (Laboratory Testing), at Subcon 2009.

Subcon 2009 is supported by the revised ISO9001:2008, which also complements the environmental standard ISO14001.

These standards add to a subcontractor’s credentials and increase its value to the supply chain.

Suppliers are now required to demonstrate the traceability that holding these standards provides.

The AS9100 standards have been tailored specifically for the aerospace industry, with enhanced focus on safety, reliability and regulatory compliance.

This standard helps manufacturers demonstrate consistency of supply, safety and effectiveness, meeting international customers’ requirements.

ISO/TS16949:2002 – Automotive Supply is a technical specification that examines the effectiveness and efficiency of processes, including employee competence and awareness, design and development, as well as production and service provision.

ISO 13485 – Medical Devices helps manufacturers demonstrate consistency of supply, safety and effectiveness, meeting international customers’ requirements.

For laboratories involved in testing, calibrations and sampling, ISO/IEC 17025:2005 provides assurance of consistency, accuracy and traceability, using standard, non-standard and laboratory-developed methods.

Subcon 2009 takes place at the NEC Birmingham from 9 – 11 June.

Subcon 2009 will give buyers the chance to source subcontract manufacturing services from an array of national and international suppliers.

Manufacturing services on offer will include machined parts, electronic assemblies, castings, plastic mouldings and metal fabrications, as well as design and build and rapid prototyping services.

Subcon 2009 will feature the Manufacturing Equipment and Materials Zone, which presents products and services for which buyers of subcontract manufacturing may also have procurement responsibility.

Exhibitors meet face to face with purchasing and supply chain professionals from blue-chip OEM’s and major industrial and engineering groups. These are the key decision makers for strategic outsourcing projects. They are complemented by design teams that have a major input into sourcing strategies for new contracts and the production professionals who are responsible for tactical subcontracting and special process outsourcing.

In terms of seniority, 75% are director or management level and 50% are the ultimate decision makers on sourcing subcontract services. Many visitors arrive with drawings and are ready to do business. More than 25% are responsible for an overall spend of on subcontracting services in excess of £1million a year and 63% expect the volume of work they subcontract will increase (29% expect it to stay the same).
