Industrial camera with GigE or USB 3.1 Type-C connection

For more than a decade, the uEye SE camera has proved itself in numerous industrial and non-industrial applications. Now, IDS is launching a newly developed generation of this successful industrial camera family. The camera will be available as both a GigE and USB 3.1 Type-C connection – in each case screw-on – as a housing version or as a board stack version, and with a broad range of CMOS sensors with rolling or global shutter. In conjunction with a comprehensive range of accessories (lenses, cables, etc.) this is an industrial camera suitable for a huge number of applications.

The first 25 models that IDS will launch as of October are versions with CMOS sensors from Sony (including Pregius IMX253, IMX304, IMX255, and IMX267 sensors with 8.9 and 12.3 mega pixel resolution), ON Semiconductor and e2v with rolling or global shutter.

The housing with a C-mount lens connection has a robust design and is equipped with a special dust-proof sensor seal. The cameras have a screw-on 8-pin Hirose connector for trigger and flash – both opto-isolated – and two GPIOs, which allow numerous additional application functions in an industrial setting. All camera models are also supplied as an unhoused board stack version with C-mount front or with no lens holder. An integrated 128 MB memory decouples image acquisition from transmission, making the uEye SE particularly interesting for multi-camera applications.

These versatile cameras are available with a screw-on Gigabit Ethernet connection or with a – also screw-on – USB 3.1 Type-C connector. The GigE models support single cable operation with Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) up to a length of 100 m. Instead of via PoE, the camera can be supplied with power using a 12-24 V power supply. The GigE uEye SE is available with a choice of GigE Vision firmware or the IDS Software Suite.

In conjunction with IDS’s proprietary driver package, the USB 3.1 Gen 1 version of this camera family also allows USB Power Delivery (PD). This enables an LED light to be operated using the USB cable, with the camera requesting the necessary power for itself and the light from the host PC via the USB Type-C interface as a PD consumer.

The IDS Software Suite is identical for all lDS cameras, regardless of whether they have a USB 2.0, USB 3.0, USB 3.1, or GigE connection. This enables optimum use of the camera and sensor features.

IDS Imaging Development Systems Ltd

IDS is one of the leading global manufacturers of digital industrial cameras, offering a choice of USB 2.0, USB 3.0, USB 3.1, and GigE connectivity. With some 220 employees worldwide, the company sells around 150,000 industrial cameras every year.

IDS has been developing and producing machine vision products since 1997. It wants to offer the best user experience in the vision market. This underpins its aim of not only delivering top performance for customers but of providing them with distinctive added value.

IDS consistently adapts key future technologies from the consumer world into its cameras to make them suitable for long-term use in equipment, mechanical, and plant engineering in both and non-industrial target sectors.

All of its cameras are supplied with the IDS software suite which provides commonality of operation across all camera types and can easily handle a mixed operation of USB 2.0, USB 3.0, and GigE uEye cameras. The high-performance hardware and software for its cameras is developed at its site in Obersulm, Germany.

From day one, it has focused on USB interfaces. It is now a global leader and is among the pioneers in the development of high-performance CMOS cameras with USB 3.1 interfaces. There is no other manufacturer with as much experience in the development and use of USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 industrial cameras. IDS’s high-speed Gigabit Ethernet cameras are also world-leading products.

IDS was quick to identify the way things were heading, not just in terms of USB. The sensors we use are also helping to shape the future. Since 2011 its new camera models contain only CMOS sensors and, with more than 10 years of know-how in development and sales, IDS can offer a broad range of sensors.

Every application is different and the range of possible applications involving USB and GigE cameras from IDS is almost unlimited – especially where there are special requirements in terms of the environment, interfaces with other electronic components, or constricted space. The experienced engineering team can develop and build customised special models. The modular concept of its high-performance products and flexibility of the IDS software suite make it easy.

However, it takes more than a good product to establish a long-term partnership based on trust. IDS offers a complete package with every industrial camera – with comprehensive service before, during, and after your buying decision. Its highly qualified, motivated and meticulously trained employees work hand in hand with you. IDS provides you with defined contacts and regular discussions, as well as support in choosing the right accessories. Whether you need feasibility studies, consulting, training, or technical support, IDS is there for you.
