Newport has introduced the OTSE, an integrated overhead shelf that connects directly to the Smarttable-OTS (optical table system) frame for increased rigidity and accessibility.

With the addition of the OTSE, the entire Smarttable-OTS has a smaller footprint and provides more accessibility to the table than other competitive shelf systems, according to Newport.

The overhead shelf features a 23.5in deep surface and 300lb load capacity to provide sufficient room and stability for even the largest instruments.

Newport’s latest OTSE version features a blank front panel for use in applications that may be sensitive to the electrical fields generated by power outlet strips.

‘What makes this accessory unique are the specially designed front and rear edge guards that prevent expensive instruments from accidentally falling onto the table and either causing equipment damage or creating a potentially dangerous laser safety issue,’ said Warren Booth, vibration control product manager.

To provide optimal access or clearance, the overhead shelf can be mounted in three distinct locations along the depth of the frame, that is, in the front, centre or rear.

The shelf also features a full 5.5in of assembly height adjustment to improve user accessibility; this allows easier access to frequently used instruments or provides clearance for taller equipment, such as microscopes.

Users have the option to attach their own power supply strips to either the front panel, or for maximum flexibility, they can use the under-shelf T slots.

The T slots can also accommodate hanging shelves or other homemade accessories.

The Smarttable OTS and the OTSE integrated overhead shelves are available in 6ft, 8ft and 10ft widths.
