ITC Tooling will demonstrate cutting tools that have been implemented in the motorsport industry at the Autosport show on 8-11 January 2009 at the Birmingham NEC.

The products that ITC will exhibit include the 2151, 2132 and the 4081 series of end mills.

The new additions to the Cyber series of ITC cutting tools are ideal for machining graphite, metal matrix, composites, Kevlar, carbon fibre and additional abrasive materials that are commonly used in motorsport.

Already established among F1 teams and the numerous suppliers, the 2151 is an extension of the 2111 series high-performance two flute PCD end mill with a solid carbide shank and necking for extra reach.

Following customer feedback, ITC has developed the 2151 extra-long series to provide rigid, high-performance machining of difficult-to-reach surfaces.

With an overall length of 150mm, each cutter in the range has a length of cut 2mm longer than the diameter and a corner radius that sees both attributes combine to provide strength and rigidity when machining.

Available in 8 to 12mm diameter, the range guarantees long tool life and high productivity.

With customers demanding ever-increasing cutter lengths, ITC has developed the 2132 Cyber series of extra-long PCD ball-nosed end mills.

An extension of the 2102 series, the 2132 series has a solid carbide shank with PCD brazed tips for enhanced tool life and productivity when machining carbon fibres as used by racing teams.

The solid shank guarantees rigidity under difficult cutting conditions while the PCD tips demonstrate tool life beyond that of its competitors.

The 2132 series is available in 8, 10 and 12mm diameter with an overall length of 150mm and a reach of 45mm.

Another product that will generate interest among Autosport visitors is the 4081 series of AlTin coated four flute solid carbide end mills.

This new cutter has a harmonic flute geometry that provides good swarf evacuation.

The result of extensive research and development, this single, square-end straight shank with right-hand helix cutter has a radical unequal flute spacing that reduces machining noise by eliminating the harmonic effect.

Available with or without corner radius, this standard length, centre-cutting series can efficiently machine a variety of difficult-to-cut motorsport alloys.

The 4081 series is available in a diameter range from 3 to 32mm with a length of cut ranging from 9 to 60mm.

This addition to the Cyber series has an overall length from 58 to 160mm with either a square end or a radius up to 4mm dependant upon the selected diameter.
