James Walker’s compression-packings guide provides technical information for OEMs, design engineers, maintenance staff and procurement executives across all industrial sectors.

It starts with a quick-reference chart that enables readers to scan swiftly through the complete range and select the most suitable products for specific application before referring to the full descriptions and technical specifications.

The section on graphite-based fugitive emission control features packings such as the low-friction Supagraf Premier and Supagraf Control, which are both certified in valves to TA Luft/VDI 2440 standards and qualify as Best Available Technique products in line with the EU IPPC Directive.

Supagraf Premipak is a combination packing set for valves, based on two graphite materials that conform to Shell material specifications MESC SPE 85/203 and 85/204.

This packing set is designed to reduce VOC emissions to better than 100ppm and has a working temperature range of -200 to 450C.

Also new to the guide are Torrlid packings that hold a vacuum on the lids above crucibles of molten aluminium.

These products readily withstand the temperatures and compressive forces involved, even after repeated opening and closing cycles.

Many compression packings in this publication are said to significantly reduce maintenance stockholding costs, as most length-form products can be used on different sizes of valves, centrifugal pumps and other rotary equipment, as well as reciprocating pumps and rams.

Materials range from highly developed Supagraf graphite and chemically inert Fluolion PTFE-based grades to hard-wearing aramid, glass and ramie fibres, and softer natural yarns.

Products for static duties include the Tankatite range of sealing products for tank lids and hatches on marine tankers, and static or mobile tank containers.

There are also very high-temperature packing grades for furnace doors and kilns.

The compression-packings guide can be downloaded in PDF format from James Walker’s website and is also available as a 36-page printed brochure.

James Walker and Co

James Walker is a dynamic global manufacturing organisation that supplies a vast range of high performance fluid sealing products and associated knowledge-based services to virtually every sector of industry. Our activities range from research and development, product application, manufacture and supply, to plant monitoring, on-site maintenance and seal refurbishment. An intimate knowledge of the industrial plant and processes used by our customers worldwide enables us to solve their fluid sealing problems with best value systems designed to minimise total cost of ownership.

State-of-the-art skills in materials technology, particularly relating to elastomers, polymers, composites and engineering plastics, are central to our success — in addition to the core disciplines of high performance sealing technology and tribology. Extensive expertise in the precision machining of exotic alloys for metallic seals, and tension control fasteners for bolted joints, positions us firmly at the forefront of these technologies. We therefore claim that our products and expertise help to keep industry worldwide running safely and efficiently year-in and year-out.

Our worldwide family of companies has 11 production, engineering, distribution and customer support sites in the UK, and a further 40 spread across Continental Europe, Australia, New Zealand, SE Asia, South Africa and the USA. At the local level, a close-knit network of James Walker companies and official distributors supplies our products and services to over 100 countries. Highly developed e-commerce systems and logistics operations give customers the surety of supply they need. We also work in partnership with customers at all levels.
