JK Engineering selects CMZ lathe for F1 machining

By CMZ on 15th June 201015th December 2015

Product Details Supplier Info More products

Formula One (F1) machining specialist JK Engineering has ordered a TC20 YS lathe with Y-axis and sub-spindle from CMZ.

The 200mm chuck size machine features a particularly large Y-axis movement of 140mm, from -60mm to +80mm, with big guide-ways and a raised centre height.

This allows the use of a larger turret disk, with 16 full-size stations, all with 12kW driven tooling.

The machine will also be fitted with tool monitoring and tool-break detection, selectable coolant pressures to allow deep-hole drilling and optical scales on X and Y axes for extreme accuracy.

Quick-change chucks for rapid changeovers are also aided by the LPS linear scale on the main and sub-spindle chuck cylinders, making the changing of the grip positions quick and easy.

John Kenny, managing director of JK Engineering, said: ‘The crucial factor for me is that all 16 tools on the turret can be driven, which gives great versatility for a small machine.’
