Knowles Sound Solutions has launched the Cobra, a miniature speaker suitable for acoustic applications in mobile devices. The speaker delivers good power handling capacity and features a silicone membrane, enabling excellent loudness in mobile sound designs.

According to the company, the Cobra’s 1W power handling capacity enables outstanding loudness in portable consumer devices, such as feature phones, smartphones, tablet computers and various handheld applications where high-quality sound is required.

Knowles Sound Solutions has also introduced a version of the component for side-porting applications — dubbed the Cobra Side-Fire speaker. This pre-tested and integrated acoustic solution ports out of the side of the mobile device, enabling thinner application heights and a faster time to market for handset OEMs. The consumer benefits from the elimination of muffled sound when holding the phone in his or her hand or when it is lying on a table.
