Laser Components is offering a series of avalanche photodiodes (APDs) for systems for which signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and/or stability are critical. They are packaged in a form that allows direct drop-in-replacement.

According to the company, the IAG-Series can be operated at a higher multiplication gain with the same noise compared with other comparable APDs without cooling. Alternatively, they can be operated at the same gain but with lower noise.

The temperature shift of the operating voltage is claimed to be notably better and cooling may not be necessary. The IAG-Series APDs are available in 80μm, 200μm and 350μm diameters, with the 80µm and 200µm found to have optimum SNR.

Suitable applications include LIDAR laser range finding, retinal imaging, speed control, test and measuring systems for industry and medicine and 3D scanners.
