Osram Opto Semiconductors has introduced the Ostar Compact range of light-emitting diodes (LEDs), suitable for use in pico and pocket projectors for small mobile terminals.

The new range can handle up to 6A in pulsed mode.

Depending on the design of small projectors, these high-power LEDs can provide a real brightness boost, according to the company.

The LED range offers more light output and is accommodated in the same 3.9 x 3.6mm package as the previous version.

Small projectors can be designed for more brightness without increasing their size.

Instead of 4A, the new LED range can now be pulsed with 6A and it achieves 350lm in amber, 600lm in green and 165lm in blue in pulsed mode (typically 120Hz, 2ms, Ts= 25C).

Thanks to a new package material, its thermal resistance has been reduced to 3K/W, compared with 6K/W in the old version.

The enhanced performance of the high-power LED range is achieved by a 2mm chip that benefits from improved epitaxy processes and from a more even power distribution via additional bond wires.

The new product is available from distributor Rutronik.
