Livingston has introduced a series of passive inter-modulation (PIM) testing products designed to support the mobile sector’s migration to IP-based communications.

The Kaelus IQA testers are designed to enable the roll-out of network infrastructure that achieves the full operational potential of Long Term Evolution (LTE) and ensures that base station performance is not compromised.

According to the company, PIM arises when the signals emanating from a base station are affected by radio-frequency (RF) interference caused by the mixing together of other wireless signals.

This interference causes the noise floor of the base station to be increased, reducing its sensitivity.

Key features and specifications

  • The testers are designed to allow mobile operators to improve network performance and to lower operational costs by finding and eliminating the sources of PIM at cell sites
  • The series supports frequency bands from 680MHz up to 2,100MHz
  • The devices are offered in a 500 x 457 x 305mm form factor weighing 22.7kg
  • With an operational temperature range of -10°C to +40°C, they can cope with 95 per cent humidity levels and have an IP20 rating against water ingress
  • Each tester incorporates a high-resolution colour display (213mm diagonal) with an integrated touchscreen user interface
  • An RF output, two USB ports and two LAN interface ports are included
