Yaskawa has launched the EcoIPM series of low-energy motors, suitable for energy-efficient equipment and machinery in demanding working environments.

When combined with a Yaskawa V1000 inverter, the EcoIPM permanent magnet motors form an efficient drive package that can help to reduce lifecycle costs.

Under the EuP legislation, certain types of new equipment, such as pumps, fans and compressors, will have to meet efficiency requirements that can only be fulfilled by combining an IE3 motor with an inverter drive.

EcoIPM motors are claimed to offer better energy efficiency than standard motors.

The permanent magnet motors are designed to optimise cost effectiveness and to help reduce carbon emissions through lower energy consumption when combined with a Yaskawa V1000 frequency inverter.

With the EcoIPM motors, the company complies with the new EU directive (640/2009), which mandates that motors of the previous EFF2 efficiency class may not be sold from 2011 onwards.

With energy prices going up steadily, inefficient types of equipment and machinery are becoming an increasing cost factor.

That is why, in the long run, companies can realise economical advantages by converting to EcoIPM motors in combination with frequency inverter-based speed control, according to Yaskawa.

The resulting energy savings will cut down operating costs and the saving potential will increase as energy prices go up, added the company.

In terms of lifecycle costs, the package combining EcoIPM and V1000 also delivers a range of benefits.

The EcoIPM motor and the inverter both feature a compact design.

The new motor is two sizes smaller than a level IE2 asynchronous motor.

The smallest member of the product range features a 56A frame size and the largest comes in a 90B frame size.

The motors are available in B3 design and in flange-mount versions – both in 200V and 400V voltage classes.

The V1000 inverter can control the EcoIPM without motor feedback, making the package suitable for demanding working environments.

The inverters and motors are available for the European market and comply with European CE regulations.

Yaskawa will present the new motor on Stand 320 in Hall B2 at Automatica.
