Markem-Imaje is offering the Smartlase 110 range of 10W CO2 laser coders for the food-and-beverage industry.

The Smartlase 110 line includes two laser coders: Smartlase 110i and Smartlase 110si.

Smartlase 110 coders permanently code text and variable data such as dates and lot numbers on moving and stationary products.

The coders can mark up to 650 products per minute and are suitable for applications requiring one to three lines on chipboard cartons, plastic, glass and other materials.

The patented matrix technology delivers optimal laser performance, according to the company.

Markem-Imaje claims that the laser source never stops, providing better reliability and a longer lifetime than ordinary laser coders.

The Smartlase 110 laser coder fits on almost any packing line.

It has a two-module design, featuring a highly compact printhead (measuring 114cm) and a portable operator interface.

It offers a zero- to 90-degree laser beam angle without changing printhead.

The coder’s ergonomic, small interface can go and fit everywhere, according to the company.

The Smartlase 110si, which is suitable for wet environments, is the IP56 stainless-steel version, which stands up to water or detergent washdowns, dust and dirt.

For PET applications, the specific 9.3-micron wavelength option marks up to 36,000 bottles per hour.

Markem-Imaje also offers a choice of extractors for dust and gas filtering.

Certain fans have a cooling option, which avoids having to connect Smartlase to plant air.

Other features include: a choice of lenses; 17 languages for programming; the possibility of driving up to 14 coders with a single interface; demo mode as standard, which is an aiming diode that confirms accurate marking positioning; and RS-232 connectivity as standard with RS-485 and Ethernet as options.
