Micro-Epsilon has provided Israel-based steel pipe manufacturer Metco with its Scancontrol 2710 laser profile scanner, to help it ensure the weld seams on its pipes, used for transporting sewage, water, oil and gas, are completely leak-tight.

Previously, Metco had been positioning the metal sheets for its spiral-welding process manually — but claimed it was difficult to align the pipes accurately this way, leading to problems down the line.

Now, with Micro-Epsilon’s Scancontrol 2710 laser profile scanner, this positioning process is performed automatically.

Positioning is directly controlled by calculated profile information and the optional output unit performs the conversion of this data via FireWire.
