DTE Tonawanda is using the Micro-90 Concentrated Cleaning Solution to clean membranes that filter an automotive manufacturer’s wastewater.

DTE can treat up to 168,000 gallons of wastewater a day.

DTE uses an ultrafiltration membrane system with two banks of 160 filters each to treat the wastewater.

Dan Johnson, plant manager at DTE Tonawanda, said: ‘Micro-90 removes the organics and metals that can blind the membranes.

‘Micro 90 has allowed us to eliminate the previous two-step process that used caustic and acid materials.

‘A one per cent solution of Micro 90 allows a single cleaning cycle, which provides savings through reduced energy use, reduced chemical use, and less downtime.

‘We achieve 100 per cent recovery after every Micro-90 wash, and have yet to replace any of our membranes after six years of operation.’ Micro-90 Concentrated Cleaning Solution is manufactured by International Products.

IPC also manufactures biodegradable temporary rubber assembly lubricants under the brand P-80. P-80 products are widely used in the automotive, appliance, and pump industries to reduce the force needed to install tight-fitting rubber and plastic parts such as seals, grommets, hoses, grips, bushings, and many others. Using P-80 eliminates the compatibility and residue problems associated with motor oil, and reduces part damage caused by tearing. P-80 lubricants are compatible with most natural and synthetic rubbers, plastics, and metals.  P-80 products do not contain silicon, alcohol, or petroleum distillates, and once dry will not re-lubricate. Free samples of all products are available from the manufacturer.
