Micro-Epsilon has developed a range of miniature rugged draw-wire sensors suitable for harsh applications characterised by fast movements, short displacements and limited space.

The MPM series of sensors can be used, for example, in automotive research and development applications such as on-road chassis testing.

Here the sensors are installed in parallel with the on-vehicle shock absorbers, where they measure the absorber displacements, or movements, caused by the road surface. The displacement signal is then used to calculate vibration velocity and acceleration for the shock absorber.

The MPM sensors — available in three measuring ranges (50mm, 100mm and 250mm) — can withstand mechanical shocks up to 50g (20msec) and wire acceleration up to 100g.
