Micro-Epsilon has introduced two confocal controllers for OEM, continuous production and research and development (R&D) test applications in the high-precision semiconductor, glass, plastics and medical sectors.

The ConfocalDT 2451 and ConfocalDT 2471 controllers are claimed to offer fast measuring rates, excellent signal-to-noise ratios and quick real-time surface compensation for hard-to-measure surfaces.

They measure distance to virtually any target material and the thickness of single- and multi-layer transparent materials. They also monitor liquid-level fill levels, inspect bore holes and measure transparent, reflecting or matt surfaces.

  • The new controllers replace Micro-Epsilon’s IFC2401 and IFC2431 devices
  • They feature an all-metal, DIN-rail-mountable construction
  • Both controllers can be used with all of the company’s confocal sensors, including the 4mm- and 8mm-diameter versions in axial or radial arrangements
  • The ConfocalDT 2451 utilises a white LED as the light source, enabling measuring rates up to 10kHz
  • The ConfocalDT 2471 utilises an external xenon light source, enabling measuring rates up to 70kHz

  • They are said to be simple to set up and operate; users can remotely configure measurement channels using the web-based software via Ethernet
