Micro-Epsilon has provided Ceratizit — a manufacturer of carbide cutting tools used in metalworking — with Optocontrol 2500 laser displacement sensors for measuring the width and height of cutting disks.

Ceratizit uses an Optocontrol 2500 non-contact sensor as part of a measurement setup designed and developed by Benzing Feinwerktechnik.

Within this system — which can be used as mobile unit — the vertically mounted sensor traverses along the object to be measured and is supported by a pneumatic processing unit. It detects the width of the sensitive cutting edges using the ‘shadow principle’. The data is then transferred to a PC, which displays the latitude graphically, for further evaluation.

The Optocontrol 2500 consists of a sensor unit and a controller, which controls and evaluates the sensor and features a graphical display.

The unit features a sampling rate of 2.3kHz, a repeatability of less than 3µm and a resolution of less than 1µm.
