The EDS series of compact, pressure-resistant (up to 450 bar) position sensors from Micro-Epsilon is suitable for use in hydraulic suspension cylinders on mobile cranes and other off-highway vehicles.

The sensors, which have a diameter of 3mm, are reliable in harsh environments and can withstand extreme vibration and shock levels (up to 300g axial and 100g radial).

The EDS series sensors are more compact in length and diameter than LVDTs and magnetostrictive sensors, and operate using the eddy current operating principle.

  • Uses non-ferrous aluminium outer sleeve as its target, which can be integrated into the piston rod
  • Sensor body is a solid rod, making it simpler for OEMs to assemble and more robust and reliable
  • The sensor flange integrates the sensor electronics and signal conditioning using compact electronics; this means the hydraulic cylinder does not have to be increased in length to accommodate large electronics or have remote electronics
  • Standard range is available for measuring lengths from 100mm up to 630mm; OEM versions can be designed for almost any measurement range from 10mm to 1m
  • Temperature range is -40°C to 85°C
