Millenium Doors, a Birmingham-based manufacturer of fire-safety doors, is benefiting from recently installed vacuum lifting systems from Vaculex.

Output at Millenium has now reached 200 doors a day and this represents a 60 per cent increase since the Vaculex technology was installed.

The awkward shape and weight of the doors used to require two men, but now the modular vacuum units move doors between different locations and processes, such as cutting, calibrating, edge banding and lacquer applications, via conveyor systems as appropriate.

Being solid fire-rated doors, they weigh around 45-50kg and it is important to avoid any damage.

‘We are now able to maintain constant momentum as well as freeing people for other duties and optimising floor space and cleanliness,’ said Jim Manning, managing director.

As soon as they are ready and approved, the basic doors then move alongside to group partner companies Midland Building Products for finishing to style, including apertures and hinges, and UK Doors, which manufactures the frames to pre-hang the doors.

Millenium has acquired the Vaculex VL option, which is claimed to combine heavy-duty performance with lightness and user-friendly configuration.

Each tube fitting can lift 30-250kg via a hand grip.

The vertical movement can be as much as 4m and there are six lift tube sizes available between 100mm and 200mm, with five varied pump choices and related accessories.
