Mitsubishi fans used for grown produce research

By Mitsubishi Electric Automation Systems on 26th November 201015th December 2015

Product Details Supplier Info More products

Sutton Bridge Crop Storage Research Centre has opened six stores in which Mitsubishi Electric controllers and fan drives control the temperature, humidity and CO2 content.

Built in 20 weeks at a cost of GBP600,000 by specialist company Crop Systems in nearby North Walsham, Norfolk, the stores are all filled with sensors that feed back to a computer.

The computer takes all the data, builds a 3D map of the atmosphere, then sets the speed of various fans to ensure target conditions are maintained.

With storage lasting for 6-12 months, a small daily energy saving will add up to cheaper vegetables for the consumer.

Sutton Bridge will be conducting research into many vegetables, including potatoes, carrots, onions, broccoli, cauliflower and parsnips, with the overall objective of making locally grown produce the purchase of choice for British shoppers and gourmets.

Different ventilation methods, such as forced, suction and letter box, can also be investigated.

Mitsubishi has a special fan-rated drive, the F740, which optimises power consumption while matching torque to instantaneous demand.
