Miyano Machinery UK is to launch the BNA-42S fixed-head turning centre at Mach 2010.

The machine will be demonstrated on the Citizen Machinery UK stand.

It has been specifically developed for single-cycle turn-milling tasks by combining front and back machining.

The BNA-42S is said to be compact and rigid, requiring 2.1 x 1.3m of floor space.

It is the first machine from the company stable to be influenced by Citizen with the new generation of user-friendly programming interfaces and cycle time saving, overlapping capabilities of different functions actioned from the Fanuc control.

Power to the main spindle is 7.5kW giving 5,000rev/min and 5.5kW, 5,000rev/min for the sub-spindle.

Each of the driven tool positions on the turret is powered by 2.8kW, 5,000rev/min motors and because of the independent drive system there are no torque losses at the cutting tool enabling tool shank sizes up to 25mm to be accommodated.

The strokes in X, Z and B (sub-spindle) axes are 135mm, 235mm and 310mm respectively.

Significant in the turret design is the ability to half index, which doubles the application interface for tools to 16 positions.

However, Miyano engineers have also developed multiple tool holders to carry static and driven tools that can be attached to any turret position without fouling adjacent tools or creating a potential for collision.

As part of the joint development between Citizen and Miyano, a focus on idle time reduction should show an immediate saving of 27 per cent in these elements compared with the previous generation of Miyano machines.

The BNA series is a modular design and therefore is available with or without sub-spindle, as a chucker or with a tailstock.

There is also a smaller bar capacity version of 34mm (BNA-34S), which incorporates the same specification.

Options include: parts-catcher and conveyor; a long part system with part catchment tray; a range of bar feeders; swarf extraction systems; and high-pressure coolant systems.
