Eaton is offering its Moeller PKE range of motor protection circuit breakers with precise, stable tripping characteristics, large setting ranges and low heat dissipation.

Incorporating electronic overload protection, the devices cover the range 0.09 to 34kW with three base units and five control units, reducing the number of variants that users need to stock.

Suitable for use in demanding applications, the PKE circuit breakers allow users to choose Class five, 10, 15 or 20 trip characteristics using a rotary selector.

A second calibrated rotary dial is provided for setting the trip current, and the stability of the electronic trip system ensures that the settings are accurately maintained throughout the life of the unit, even in adverse operating conditions.

The units are fully compatible with accessories from Eaton’s Moeller Xstart range.

This means that, when they are used in conjunction with Eaton’s Moeller DIL contactors, motor starters can quickly be assembled using tool-less plug-in connectors that eliminate the need for conventional wiring between the contactor and the protective device.

PKE circuit breakers also support Eaton’s Moeller Smartwire-Darwin in-panel fieldbus system that replaces conventional control wiring with convenient plug-in connections.

When used with Smartwire-Darwin, the devices can provide information about key aspects of their operation – including maximum motor current, trip status, fault warnings and setting details – to the connected control system.

The range includes the PKE12, suitable for motor currents from 0.3 to 12A, the PKE32, for motor currents from 3 to 32A, and in the future the PKE65 for motor currents from 8 to 65A.

All types have an operating temperature range of -25 to 55C, and all are fully compliant with relevant EU and international standards, including IEC/EN 60947-4-1, VDE 0660, UL 508 and CSA C 22.2 No.14.
