Michael Smith Engineers is offering made-to-measure external gear pumps from Micropump for a variety of OEM and industrial high-precision liquids-transfer applications.

The range comprises nine series of pumps covering flow rates from as low as ml/hr and up to 40l/min at maximum discharge pressures between 5.2 and 8.5 bar, depending on the model and fluid.

This range of pumps, combined with the variety of available options, allows users to specify a pump that is tailored specifically to their application.

For example, high-system-pressure versions are available for pumping liquids in high-pressure applications.

The pumps are available in a choice of metallurgies, including stainless steel and Hastelloy-c, while a range of different gear materials can be specified to best suit the liquid being pumped and the duty parameters.

Pumps can also be supplied with different porting arrangements.

All models have magnet drives, so there is no leakage of the process fluid – giving users the benefit of reduced environmental, health and safety, and chemical-handling issues.

The external gear design gives a smooth, pulse-free and highly accurate output, so the distribution of the process liquid is even and constant, as opposed to more unpredictable pulsed flows from other types of pump.

The output of the pumps can be adjusted by altering motor speed, while control options depend on the motor/drive specified.

These include 0-5V DC or 4-20mA or RS232 automatic control, in addition to manual control via a potentiometer.

Many of the Micropumps use an internal pressure-loaded suction shoe, which allows the pump to self-compensate for wear and maintain high volumetric efficiency, even at high operating pressures.

In addition, by reducing the number of parts needed for operation to an absolute minimum, the suction shoe design minimises downtime and simplifies servicing.

Recent applications have included dosing additives to animal feed to prevent contamination and infection, transferring liquids in specialist fuel-cell development prototype work and for pumping diesel exhaust fluid into exhaust gases to reduce nitrous oxides from diesel generators.

Michael Smith Engineers

Michael Smith Engineers Ltd,  the UK’s leading pump specialist for difficult liquid handling applications since 1971,  provide representation in the UK for specialist pump manufacturers, with particular emphasis on sealless leak free pump technology.  Our product range includes magnetically driven gear pumps, magnetically driven centrifugal pumps (including metal, plastic and lined centrifugals),  canned motor centrifugal pumps, peristaltic pumps, tubular diaphragm pumps, metering pumps, valveless piston pumps, turbine  pumps,  high pressure diaphragm pumps, vane pumps and barrel emptying pumps. We can supply pumps in a wide choice of wetted materials for liquids between 0.2 cP and 500,000 cP, temperatures between -50 oC and +400 oC,  capacities from nanolitres per hour to m3  per minute and can offer pumps for  high system pressures up to 350 Bar and high discharge pressures up to 500 Bar.  Corrosion resistant materials are available for many of our ranges include metallic options of stainless steel and high nickel alloys or plastic options of PVC,  polypropylene, PVDF and ETFE. The main markets we service with our ranges of pumps are the chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical and process sector with our larger pumps  as well as laboratories, research and development institutions and OEMs with our smaller pumps.
