Midland Tool and Design (MTD) is collaborating with a Californian company to provide stampings as part of a tooling and component project for the US underground system.

The stampings will be used in power regeneration on a large flywheel that will convert and reuse the energy generated in braking on the US subway network.

The engineering company was selected for the project based on the accuracy of its Modulam tooling system.

According to managing director Darren Booton, by using the Modulam system, MTD can ensure that stampings meet exact requirements, meaning that the project could begin without any delay manufacturing an accurate prototype.

The company is currently working towards gaining the AS9100 aerospace accreditation.

This should be completed in April, allowing MTD to work more closely with its customers in the aerospace sector.
