Bowers Metrology has revealed that Muffett Gears has selected the CV-400DAT Vickers tester for the accurate testing of a wide range of components.

Muffett offers a range of engineering products including: gear cutting, milling, turning and grinding; four-axis machining; helical, spur and bevel gears; racks; worms and worm wheels; electronic and mechanical assembly; general and subcontract machining; prototyping and first-batch production.

The company’s range of equipment enables it to undertake applications for industrial sectors, including the aerospace, defence, marine, automotive, motorsport, hydraulics and scientific industries.

With the recent closure of Muffett Gears’ main induction hardness subcontractor, the opportunity was taken to bring this function in-house.

Neil Rodermark, engineer at Muffett Gears, said: ‘Having decided that the in-house provision of high-quality induction hardness would make our operation more autonomous, reduce lead times and help our customers, we purchased the necessary plant.

‘In accordance with our stringent quality regime, one of our most important recent acquisitions is our advanced new hardness tester from Bowers Metrology.

‘Our operators have found the CV-400DAT Vickers tester ideal for the accurate testing of a wide range of components and are impressed by the unit’s speed of operation, accuracy and repeatability.

‘Aiding important material traceability, the machine’s RS-232 output enables the transmission of our gathered data to external devices, while the tester’s integrated high-speed thermal printer is able to generate hard copy of all measured results,’ Rodermark added.

Bowers’s CV-400DAT motorised turret tester offers many advanced features, such as a high-quality optical system, a convenient digital measuring microscope and dual optical paths to accommodate an optional video measuring system.

The tester can be operator-configured to accommodate most Micro Vickers testing situations; Bowers claims that the sturdy unit’s simple control system, allied to a high-resolution digital display ensures rapid and repeatable operation.
