WNT’s Monstermill solid-carbide end mills are suitable for machining aerospace materials and roughing stainless steel.

The Monstermill range can machine titanium alloys, heat-resistant super alloys (HRSA), nickel alloys and heat-treated material up to 60HRc.

This has made it popular with companies involved in the aerospace sub-contracting sector.

The cutter can achieve metal-removal rates of up to 700cm3/min in material with tensile strengths of more than 300N/mm2.

This ability is derived from WNT’s ICR design (INOX Cutter for Roughing), with its irregular flute pitch and varying helix angle, and the latest nanolayer Ti1500 PVD coating technology combined with the high-quality K30F-grade tungsten carbide core.

The gold-coloured Ti1500 coating has a hardness of 3400 HV and is between two and three microns thick.

The result is a high resistance to abrasion along with an ability to operate at temperatures up to 900C.

Further aiding extended tool life is the coating’s low-friction value against steel of 0.7.

Higher feed-rates are possible thanks to the K30F carbide grade, which has a high resistance to bending, ensuring a stable cutting action.

The Monstermill has an external coolant/air blast and a standard through-tool coolant facility that ensures optimum cooling and swarf evacuation.

This makes it suitable for cutting full slots to 1.5 x diameter, plunge milling, ramping and helical milling at approach angles between three and five degrees.

Typical cutting data for the ICR Monstermill on a X6CrNiMoTi17-12-2 900 steel with a tensile strength of 900N/mm2 is 120m/min and a feedrate of 0.76m/min when full slotting or ramping, using a 10mm diameter cutter.
