Virtual Tool and Composites has invested in seven seats of NCG CAM for 3+2 axis machining.

The company utilises a range of machining centres, including some with very large working envelopes.

Virtual Tool and Composites’ customers range across industries such as aerospace, energy, automotive, mould and die and oil and gas industries.

The company was looking for a reliable, easy-to-use shop-floor programming system that was capable of machining three-axis, 3+2 axis with reliable, collision-free execution.

After bench-marketing various software packages, Virtual Tool and Composites decided to purchase NCG CAM software.

Since implementing NCG CAM, the company has experienced reduced machining times by being able to use shorter tools when machining complex parts.

NCG CAM is said to be well suited to mould, tool and die, is easy to use and integrates with existing CAD and CAM systems.

NCG CAM is suitable for all types of forms, creating an optimised, smooth cutter motion for 3D HSM machining while helping to extend tool life, minimising wear on the machine tool and producing parts with good surface finish.

It is said to have a user-friendly interface, with a typical learning curve of one day required to machine a live job, and is ideal for the high-speed machining of moulds, dies, prototypes and precision surface machining.

NCG CAM offers many advanced 3D machining routines, rest roughing and 3+2 capabilities for all toolpaths, with a simultaneous five-axis add-on module available.

It offers fast and efficient roughing strategies, including core roughing; advanced drilling routines, including hole detection and/or user-defined holes; and all machining routines are fully gouge-protected for both the cutter and the tool holder.

There is also a rest area option for finishing strategies to minimise any air cutting.
