Work has begun on the development of a ‘capability matrix’ under the leadership of the North East Process Industry Cluster’s (NEPIC’s) marketing and communications team.

This will identify which chemistries and technologies are able to be carried out by each of the member companies, helping them to market this to potential customers from the region, around the UK or anywhere in the world.

The information will be held securely and confidentially by the NEPIC with only anonymous information being made more widely available to ensure the protection of sensitive company information.

As well as helping companies to gather sales, this information will be used by NEPIC staff to help with marketing what the region’s process sector is able to offer to businesses seeking chemicals from around the world, as well as highlighting where there are gaps in its capability that can be used to target potential inward investors.

A summer placement student, Ashleigh Thompson, is currently working on information from the public domain, before the nominated consultant, Peter Trickett of PST Consulting, conducts the second phase of more technical research.

It is hoped that a workable tool will be available for reference before the end of 2009.
