NSK has developed and commercialised a shielded, double-row, angular contact ball bearing for industrial water pumps.

The new ball bearing delivers a good axial load carrying capacity and a long service life – increasing reliability and decreasing operating costs for water pumps.

According to the company, industrial water pumps are expected to be highly efficient and reliable and to reduce environmental impact.

For this reason, the bearings used in these pumps are designed to provide both compactness and an excellent load carrying capacity.

NSK’s new shielded, double-row, angular contact ball bearing has dimensions (bore and outside diameter and width) that are compliant with ISO standards.

Thanks to its shielded design, bearing life is said to have been improved from 1.3 to 2.6 times, compared with conventional products.

This enables a smaller bearing to provide the same bearing life, according to the company.

Compared with conventional bearings, the new design is claimed to provide a three-times-greater axial load carrying capacity.

The bearing’s axial load carrying capacity has been improved from 1.1 to 2.8 times through optimal bearing design.

Through high-temperature dimensional stabilisation, the new bearing can be used up to a maximum of 150C.

Benefits include reduced operating costs as water pumps can be downsized, a simplified pump design and improved productivity – delivered by a grease-filled bearing.

There are also longer periods between pump maintenance thanks to a longer bearing life at the same bearing size.

Pump reliability is said to be improved, since the bearing is able to carry a heavy axial load.

Water pump reliability is also increased, thanks to the bearing’s ability to withstand high motor temperatures.
