Omicron has introduced the OMS 605 portable partial discharge (PD) monitoring system for rotating machines and high-voltage cable systems. It is designed for temporary online monitoring of single or multiple assets under load, such as motors, generators or high-voltage cables.

With the OMS 605, measurements are performed at individual assets, one after the other. A notebook PC can be attached for either onsite or remote analysis and display of monitoring data.

Data is collected from the sensors and all pre-processing routines are performed by the acquisition unit. This is said to guarantee an optimum performance in speed and signal quality. The PD signals are filtered, amplified and digitised in real time.

Through its extendable, cascading channel configuration, the OMS 605 enables synchronous, multi-channel acquisition of PD data on all three phases. This simplifies the suppression of noise signals and provides individual evaluation of particular PD sources.

The system’s source separation techniques, such as 3PARD and 3CFRD, as well as multiple gating methods by amplitude, phase, dynamic, frequency or channel, enable this further.

The OMS 605 includes Omicron monitoring software, which guides the user through the monitoring process and offers real-time data storage, display, trend supervision, threshold management as well as data reporting.

Software settings are retrievable for multiple asset configurations. Comprehensive data analysis of PD phenomena enables users to make timely maintenance decisions to prevent asset damage and outages.

Temporary PD monitoring often identifies critical high-voltage assets with a higher occurrence or intensity of PD events. A permanently installed, continuous monitoring system may be required at these assets to provide ongoing status and warning alerts before failures or unplanned shutdown occur.
