Open Mind Technologies has designed the Hypermaxx roughing module to deliver optimal milling paths and maximum material removal to minimise machining times.

The module has been fully integrated into Hypermill and is said to enable the customer to achieve shorter cycle times, increased tool life and increased machine life.

Hypermaxx performs climb milling with optimised cutting conditions allowing a large volume of material to be removed efficiently and with high process stability.

The module is based on technology that enables dynamic feed-rate adjustment to existing cutting conditions.

The fully automated dynamic feed-rate and in-feed adjustment facilitate fast and gentle climb milling to deliver cutting conditions that can enhance surface finishes as well as productivity performance.

The Hypermaxx roughing module is optional and generates distributed 3D milling paths.

Using Hypermaxx can reduce the wear and tear on both the machine tool and cutting tools.

By dynamically adjusting the feed rate, Hypermaxx maximises machining speed, rather than using the feed-rate settings that are required for a corner or other worst-condition situations, resulting in shorter production cycles.

As it is fully integrated into Hypermill, there is no need to open any additional software tools, change the program or adjust the post-processor.

Utilising its climb milling mode, Hypermaxx distributes even loads on the tools and machine, resulting in increased service life.

Automatic rounding of the tool paths in the event of abrupt directional changes further help to ease the wear and tear of the machine.

The prevention of extreme tool movements and sharp edges further enhance surface quality.

Open Mind said that the high performance of Hypermaxx is made possible by intelligent automated functions, such as a feature that accounts for the material type and dynamically optimises both the feed rate and infeed during 3D arbitrary stock roughing.

This option is integrated with Hypermill’s roughing procedure to simplify the learning and implementation.

Hypermaxx offers two selectable functions: the ‘opening cut’ option for full-cut machining of areas that are difficult to reach; and a ‘lateral cutting only’ option that enables trochoidal-style movements without full cutting.

This plunge macro always creates a complete helix or ramp movement and automatically determines the helix radius.

This enables up to 100 per cent of the cutting tool to be used by in-feeding, with no rest material remaining.

Open Mind is currently planning a number of technical seminars to inform CAM users of the features of Hypermaxx.
