A state-of-the-art ABUS overhead crane is being employed at a museum moving coal-mining equipment exhibits into a temperature regulated building for restoration.

The crane is at the the National Coal Mining Museum for England in Wakefield, UK, following the completion of a GBP6.5 million redevelopment.

Due to the heavy self-weight of the equipment such as drilling and boring machinery, underground train carriages and coal trucks, a 10,000kg SWL overhead crane with a span of 11,000mm was written into the specification.

Given the value of the items being moved into and around the storage and restoration areas, an ABUS overhead travelling crane was eventually specified.

ABUS offered a four-year basic guarantee and ISO9001 manufacturing quality system.

ABUS provided the National Coal Mining Museum with a showpiece installation, including cross-bridge power supply via energy chain, anchor harness points, cross and long travel limit switches and a full length maintenance platform.

The crane was supplied in double girder format to take advantage of the available headroom.

ABUS Crane Systems sees a wide variety of applications for its crane and hoist range, ranging from 100kg electric chain hoists through to 100 tonne overhead cranes, and from scientific, technological, aerospace and automotive facilities, as well as museums.
