Parker Hannifin has added more options, a new firmware release and Profinet connectivity to its range of Compax3 servo drives.

Designed to offer original equipment manufacturers and end users a range of drive solutions, while being simple to programme and operate, the Compax3 servo drives deliver high levels of performance and functionality, according to the company.

They are based on a common operating platform and have been developed for use in global applications, with support from Parker’s worldwide network of sales and technology centres.

The new firmware release, R09-10, supports both single- and multi-turn rotary capacitive feedback systems from Sick-Stegman for SMH servomotors and MX80L linear motors.

This provides better performance than resolver feedback, while keeping costs low in comparison with optical systems.

All stored operating recipes are listed in an optimisation widow for instant customisation to particular tasks, while the factory settings can be stored in just one click.

The oscilloscope functionality has also been enhanced to realise the capabilities of all four communications channels.

The I32 Profinet option is now available for all versions of Compax3, including the C3S, C3M and C3H screw versions and the C3Ffluid version.

This reflects the Profinet input/output (I/O) profile and offers all the functionality of Profibus DP.

This means that users can download from the web and employ the function blocks for Siemens S7 programmable logic controllers for industry-standard programming.

Compax3 offers a range of drive solutions that provide users with both single- and multi-axis servo-drive options between 1kVA and 110kVA.

The range is ideal for use with all common types of motors, actuators and feedbacks, including sine-commutated synchronous and asynchronous motors; torque motors; linear servomotors; voice coil motors; resolvers, sine cosine in single- or multi-turn versions; Hiperface or Endat interfaces; analogue and digital hall sensors; and distance-coded rotary and linear encoders.

The I32 Profinet option extends Compax3 open capabilities, which already embrace Profibus, Canopen, Devicenet, Ethercat and Powerlink protocols.

Compax3 can also be supplied with a real-time drive bus for dynamic, multi-axis synchronised applications.

Setting up and using Compax3 servo drives is said to be straightforward with Parker’s Integrated Engineering Tool software.

Based on PLCopen motion control function blocks, this includes features such as integrated online help, automatic debugging and IEC61131-3 programming.

The oscilloscope function and the Motormanager and Hydraulicsmanager modules are also said to aid programming and commissioning.
