Parker Hannifin’s IQAN-LC5 co-ordinate joystick is designed for load handling and positioning applications, both in cab and on external vehicle surfaces that are exposed to the weather.

The IQAN-LC5 joystick is said to be rugged, flexible and ergonomic.

It offers original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and vehicle operators a range of benefits.

It is simple to install, configure and operate and comes with a choice of handle options.

For example, the new joystick is supplied factory calibrated, with sealed Deutsch connectors for mounting.

It has separate power and input/output (I/O) connectors for installation, as well as the option of built-in diagnostics via a CAN bus.

When fitted with a multi-purpose handle, the IQAN-LC5 provides precise forces in both X and Y axes.

It has additional axis and proportional control, available via a thumbwheel.

All moving joystick parts have been tested to ensure an operating life of more than five million full-stroke cycles.

Compared with existing products on the market, the new joystick has a rugged base-and-handle construction, giving it a longer operating life and making it suitable for use in applications with continuous or repetitive motion.

In order to reduce operator fatigue, the IQAN-LC5 incorporates a hand rest and is designed for both left- and right-handed use.

To further extend operating life, and to simplify maintenance, the IQAN-LC5 uses bellows that can be quickly changed in the field.

A corrosion-resistant housing with specially adapted internal moisture drainage protects the system electronics.

The cable between the base and the handle is routed directly through the base plate to the built-in Deutsch connector, eliminating the risk of damage and simplifying field service, while the use of a single-circuit board and Hall-effect sensors minimise the number of components and moving parts.

The IQAN-LC5 is also constructed to meet the rigours of mobile and off-highway applications, with an enclosure that withstands high levels of vibration and operates at temperatures ranging from -40C to +85C.

The base section of the IQAN-LC5 uses a standard flange mounting to allow it to be quickly retrofitted to existing equipment and to make it compatible with other makes of joystick handle.

There are versions that use analogue voltage or CAN connections, with the latter having additional I/O to allow the IQAN-LC5 to be used as an input module for controlling ancillary devices.

The CAN version is suitable for use with Parker’s IQAN Studio Software Tools, which enable electronic systems to be programmed, configured and remotely managed.

This latest joystick forms part of Parker’s IQAN range of motion and control products for mobile and off-highway applications, and is backed by Parker’s global network of manufacturing and sales-support centres.
