Phoenix Contact has introduced two active Quint Oring redundancy modules, which increase operational reliability by monitoring the redundant power supply solution, including the output voltages of the power supplies; the power supply wiring up to the load; and the decoupling section up to the load current.

Quint Oring redundancy modules also identify and provide advance warning about critical operating states — for example, they signal incorrect wiring or defective cables, which Phoenix Contact claims was not previously possible to this extent.

The modules’ new auto current balancing (ACB) technology doubles the lifetime of the redundantly operated power supplies, ensuring that both power supplies have the same load, which is automatically and symmetrically distributed.

By permanently monitoring the load current, the plant operating company can immediately identify if redundancy has been lost — as might happen if additional loads are connected to a redundant power supply when expanding a plant or system.
