SICK has added the WLL180T photoelectric sensor with fibre-optic cable to its range of optical sensors.

The sensor, which delivers a response time of 16us, has been developed to enable the rapid object detection of fast production processes, even in hard-to-reach machine and system locations.

The WLL180T can detect fast process operations (up to 31,250 per second) and is suitable for use in the semiconductor, electronics and pharmaceutical industries and in assembly handling and robotics.

The sensor can achieve high scanning ranges of up to 20m, even in ambient conditions, according to the company.

Featuring high system reserves, the light beam can penetrate dust clouds, spray, mist or waterjets to detect objects.

Incorporating new high-resolution signal processing, the WLL180T detects minor changes in light, enabling the detection of small, inconsistent and transparent objects.

The WLL180T works as a standalone solution or in bus mode, allowing interference-free configuration with up to 16 sensors, which can be simultaneously programmed in a single action.

In addition to high functionality, the WLL180T features a dual digital display and an operating menu.

According to Phil Dyas, sensor specialist at SICK, the sensor is suitable for counting objects and detecting perforation or contrast marks, aligning window panes and checking for wire breakages.
